Here are the maths:

A maxed level 5 Golem has 6300 hitpoints and takes 30 spaces
A maxed level 7 Giant has 1100 hitpoints and takes 5 spaces

Therefore you can take 6 giants for each golem.

vs single target Inferno:

Level 1 Inferno

For 1.5 secs a target is attacked the Damage per Second (DPS) is 24
between 1.5 and 4.5 secs the DPS is 100
after 4.5 secs the DPS is 1000

Therefore a maxed golem will last - Just less than 11 secs
Each giant will last - Just less than 5.5 secs
Six giants will last - 31.5 secs

Level 2 Inferno

For 1.5 secs a target is attacked the Damage per Second (DPS) is 30
between 1.5 and 4.5 secs the DPS is 125
after 4.5 secs the DPS is 1250

Therefore a maxed golem will last - Just over 9 secs
Each giant will last - 5 secs
Six giants will last - 30 secs

Level 3 Inferno

For 1.5 secs a target is attacked the Damage per Second (DPS) is 36
between 1.5 and 4.5 secs the DPS is 140
after 4.5 secs the DPS is 1400

Therefore a maxed golem will last - Just over 8.5 secs
Each giant will last - Just less than 5 secs
Six giants will last - 29 secs

One more additional comparative statistic: A maxed giant deals - 50DPS - A maxed Golem 54DPS - So the equivalent troop space - 
Giants will deal - 324 DPS vs Golems 54 DPS

Pick your targets carefully and tactics giants are susceptible to splash damage, spring traps and giant bombs.
Other options to consider is adding witches
